LEGO Takeover! brings 50 life-size statues to Florida mall
By Phil Newman
The Palm Beach Gardens Mall in Florida plays host to a LEGO Takeover! that includes 50 life-size Lego models of characters including Batman, Captain America and Cinderella.
Over 20 stores in the mall participated in the exhibit, supporting life-size Lego creations to display in their storefronts, as reported by My Palm Beach Post. Disney princesses and superheroes from Marvel and D.C. Comics – Cinderella, Wonder Woman, Captain America – are just some of the characters on display. Both The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie are represented. Not to mention Star Wars stalwarts like Darth Vader to relatively new characters from The Force Awakens. There’s even a Lego jungle with lifelike animals.
The statues were built by master builders from Lego North America and are no small feat of time or energy. Batman took 340 hours of production and nearly 54,000 bricks; Wonder Woman is the result of 22,000 bricks and 220 hours of work.

LEGO Takeover!, which will last from April 28 until May 15, includes more than just statues. The mall is setting up a build zone in the Nordstrom Court for children to play and create in. There will also be a screening of The LEGO Movie and an area to donate sets for Bricks Busting Boredom, a nonprofit that brings Legos to children at local hospitals. And, of course, it wouldn’t be a mall if you couldn’t purchase some new Legos too. As such, there will also be a Lego pop-up store.
Similar exhibits have traveled before, but this is the first time the LEGO Takeover! will be in Florida.
It will come as no surprise that The Gardens Mall has done exhibits before. Previously, the shopping center hosted “The Art of Dr. Seuss,” a family-friendly exhibit of the beloved author’s illustrations.
And they say malls are dying.
