Star Wars The Last Jedi is almost here, but we need to get this BB-8 Lego made for real.
When The Force Awakens hit theaters in 2015, it was after a wave of merchandising crashed up onto our shores and refused to roll back. Ironically, the hottest toy of that ‘Force Friday’ push was a fully functional BB-8 replica droid, which was effectively a robotic pet.
It was amazing, and we all wanted one.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t a fiscally responsible purchase so not many people were able to indulge themselves. It also didn’t help that it was the hottest toy of the Christmas season and sold out everywhere virtually right away.
Someone who couldn’t buy the toy — or did but wanted to improve upon it — crafted a BB-8 Lego droid and it’s everything we’d ever want it to be.
Look at this thing.
Look.
At.
It.
Who wouldn’t want a fully functional BB-8 Lego replica?
It’s unclear if this is motorized or an illusion because there are no instructions included on the Flickr page associated with this creation. Takamichi Irie is the genius behind this work of art, and like all great pieces of art, there isn’t a blueprint to creating it — even when Lego is involved.
What this also means is that this isn’t a mass-produced item. As cool as it would be to have a fully functional BB-8 Lego replica, it’s one-of-a-kind. Feel free to try on your own to create one, and if you do share it with us and we’ll feature it on the site!
For the rest of us, just looking at this magnificent creation is going to have to be good enough. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
