07. Hoth – Empire Strikes Back

According to an article on oddee.com, this is not your ordinary Lego scene. Fans of the Star Wars series will recognize the battle at the Hoth. However, there’s much more to this scene. At an astounding 60,000 legos and real lights, every single part of this is lego. It took four years to make and took about $3000 altogether.

Now let’s talk about this amazing beauty. First of all, you can barely see, but the floor is made of lego, as well as the incredible cliff. We’ve talked a lot about depth and design giving things a shadow, but nothing compares to this. The way that the creator, Mark Borlase, made his cliff makes it look like a snowy cliff. And not only that, there’s a smaller cliff to get to the inside, where the real lights work.

Looking at a close up on his Flickr, you can see that the inside of the Hoth cave has a scene packed on the inside. There’s nothing Mark didn’t think of. And the creatures at the back are also a great addition to the scene, even though you don’t even need them. The work that was able to be done singularly with white legos is astounding. This is why it made it so high on the list. Great job, Mark!
